Day 2 NZ Short Course Champs

Strong performances a highlight of this years NZ Short Course Champs

More gold & silver medals and 5 Taranaki records broken for Taranaki Swimmers at the second day of competition at New Zealand Short Course Championships being held in Wellington from 6 – 9 August.

 

Julian Weir 15 (Aquabladz Taranaki) won Gold in 50m backstroke 26.25, breaking his own Taranaki record (previously 27.17); he also won Silver in a very close race for the 100m Freestyle 51.51, lowering his own record (previously 53.74).  Charlotte Webby 23 (Aquabladz Taranaki) won silver in close race for the 17 & over 800m freestyle event in time of 8:45.00;   Dylan Arlidge (Opunake) broke the Taranaki 100m breaststroke record in 1:10.46 (previously Brady Corkill 1:11.23).  The Taranaki 15 & under boys relay team of Weir, Talor Owen (Aquabladz), Dylan Arlidge and Jay Cadman-Kennedy ( NPA) were 4th= with 1:42.08 lowering the previous record of 1:44.79.  Weir also broke his own 50m freestyle record 24.15 starting in the relay (previous time 24.73). 

 

Other swimmers to make finals on day two were:

D’ani Allen 16 (Aquabladz) 7th  in 16yrs in 400m Individual Medley 5:26.32 and 6th= in 50m Backstroke 32.12

Jay Cadman-Kennedy 15 (Inglewood) 7th in 15yrs in 400m Individual Medley 4:51.34

Ann-Marie O’Donnell 15 (NPA)10th in the 15yrs 800m Freestyle 9:39.13
