Day two of finals were a very busy night for Taranaki swimmers.  Julian Weir continued his winning form to pick up the silver medal in the 200m backstroke and lower the Taranaki record  for boys 14-15 yrs in a time of 2:08.81 set previously by Dylan Dunlop-Barrett in a time of 2:08.94.  Ryan Cooper swam brilliantly for the bronze medal in a time of 2:10.21.

Julian continued with a bronze medal in the 100IM to secure a Taranaki record with 1:01.84, previously set by Brock Wilson in a time of 1:03.11. The last relay of the night for the boys 15/under freestyle team of Mitchell Owen, Julian Weir, Jay Cadman-Kennedy and Ryan Cooper broke the Taranaki record in a time of 1:44.79, previously set in 2006 in a time of 1:46.97.

Day three on Tuesday in the heats session saw another Taranaki record fall - Brydie Whitehead broke the girls 16/Over 100m backstroke in a time of 1:03.41 previously set by Georgia Johnston in a time of 1:03.87.  The finals on Tuesday night were just electrifying for Julian Weir who is definitely here to win and do it convincingly.  He took away the gold medal in the 100m freestyle in a time of 53.74 - a Taranaki record previously set in 2003 by Benjamin Smith in a time of 55.12.  Julian's time was also extremely close to the NZ Record.

Brydie lowered her 100m backstroke Taranaki record from the heats this morning to take out the gold medal in a time of 1:02.86.
